About Greene King managed pubs

A history of success

As a business, we're steeped in history. Our origins go all the way back to 1799 when Benjamin Greene moved to Bury St Edmunds to start his own brewing business. A lot's changed since then though.

In fact, through organic growth and some key acquisitions, including Marstons, Morland, Old English Inns and Laurel Neighbourhood business, we're now one of the UK's leading ale brewers and pub retailers. A FTSE 200 Plc with over 2,000 Managed and Tenanted venues across the UK, ranging from busy city centre pubs to warm friendly inns and hotels in fantastic rural locations.

There are of course some things that haven't changed. Namely our commitment to our customers and, of course, our people. Across both the tenanted and managed sides of our business, we've always believed in creating the room for freedom that gives our managers the opportunity to run their pubs their way, balanced with the central disciplines and support to help them maximise business performance.

After all, it's their talents that made us the winners of Pub Company of the Year 2007 at the Publican Awards. And continue to make us one of the most innovative pub operators in the marketplace.
